34-a The forgotten bombardment. (Englisch)

Airplane bomb falls on houses on the Blauwburgwal, corner Herengracht in Amsterdam and meets the house of Jacob van der Krol.

Jacob van der Krol, born on 30-06-1869 in Jutphaas, skipper, left for Amsterdam shortly before 1901.
On 11 July 1901 he married Anna Francisca Kröber, born in Amsterdam on 16 September, 1877, daughter of Cornelis Kröber and Frederica Agnes Abrahamsz.
His wife Anna had a sewing workshop at Herengracht 105 together with her sister Cornelia Frederica and her daughter Johanna.

In 1931 Jacob ran a guest house on the Singel 15 and in 1934 he ran the guest house on Herengracht 105 which he named after himself.
On 7 October 1938, Jacob died and Anna and her daughter Johanna continued the pension.

On 11 May 1940 at 11 am a bomber flies above Amsterdam, presumably to bomb the main post office, the telephone exchange in the Spuistraat or Schiphol. The aircraft has been shot and has to drop weight and therefore drops four bombs over Amsterdam.
One bomb falls on the corner building so that the houses of the Blauwburgwal number 17 to 25 and the Herengracht 105, where Jacob his guesthouse and Anna had the sewing workshop and number 107. One explodes in the water of the Blauwburgwal and two, of which one an unexploded bomb, falling in the Herengracht.

Because a few days later Rotterdam was bombed, this bombing was a bit forgotten.
Anna on May 20, her sister Cornelia on 12 May and her daughter Johanna on 17 May were found severely maimed under the rubble and all three were buried on Thursday, May 23, 1940 at the cemetery De Nieuwe Ooster.
